Our Family Trip to Reading Festival
Live Music for All Ages: Our Family Trip to Reading Festival
Last weekend, we took our 7-year-old daughter to Reading Festival for the very first time. For many people, Reading Festival is seen as a rite of passage for teenagers and young adults, but the weekend really reminded us that live music can be enjoyed by all ages.
Watching her face light up as the bands hit the stage was a reminder of why music is so powerful. It brings people together, creates shared memories, and spreads pure joy. Whether it was dancing in the crowd, singing along, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, our daughter showed that you are never too young to start discovering and falling in love with live performance.
Family-Friendly Live Music
Taking a child to a festival does, of course, come with its own considerations. The biggest one for us was protecting her hearing. Festivals are loud, and while that’s part of the thrill, we made sure she had proper ear defenders at all times. That way, she could fully enjoy the buzz of live music in a safe and comfortable way.
This is something we feel strongly about within The Session Band, particularly having performed for 25 years and making a conscious effort to protect our own hearing over those years. Whether we’re playing at a wedding, a corporate function, or a festival stage, our goal is to make live music accessible and enjoyable for everyone. That’s why we’re proud to say that at every Session Band event, we always have ear protection available. If you’re bringing little ones to one of our performances — or you’d just prefer a quieter experience yourself — simply ask us and we’ll be happy to provide it.
Festival Bands for Hire
Over the years, The Session Band has performed at some of the UK’s most exciting festivals, including the Foodies Festival in Cardiff and Bath, as well as the Swansea Food Festival and the Cowbridge Food Festival. These events have reinforced for us that festivals aren’t just about music — they’re about community. Families, friends, and people of all ages come together to celebrate food, culture, and of course, live performance.
As a professional wedding and events band, festivals also give us a chance to share the same energy and excitement that we bring to private events with a much wider audience. Whether it’s a headline stage or an intimate garden wedding, we believe live music should feel electric, inclusive, and unforgettable.
Passing the Love of Music On
Taking our daughter to Reading this year brought that message home. Live music is universal. It’s for young and old, for seasoned festival-goers and for first-timers. And if a 7-year-old can leave Reading Festival with a huge smile, a safe pair of ears, and a head full of songs, then it’s safe to say the next generation of music lovers is already here.
