Why The Session Band’s Music Connects with Every Crowd

Hi everyone, it’s Ceri here from The Session Band!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from a lifetime of loving and performing music, it’s this: the right song can completely change how people feel in a moment. Music has this unique power to stir emotions — to lift people up, give them release, or take them back to a memory they thought they’d forgotten. And that’s exactly why I adore being part of this band. Every night we get to watch songs transform a room full of people into one big, connected crowd.

For me personally, Alanis Morissette was a huge part of my teenage years. Songs like Ironic were more than just chart hits — they were the soundtrack to growing up, figuring out life, and finding my own voice. There’s something so freeing about shouting out those choruses with your friends, laughing (and crying!) at the lyrics, and just letting go.

Now, years later, I see that same effect happening all over again with today’s younger women and Chappell Roan. When we play Pink Pony Club live, the reaction is incredible — it’s not just a song, it’s an anthem. You can see people relating to it, owning it, and letting it give them that same release that Alanis gave me years ago. That’s when you realise how timeless the emotional pull of music really is.

How We Bring That to Our Shows

At The Session Band, we love leaning into songs that make people feel. In our full band set, Pink Pony Club is a showstopper — colourful, bold, and full of life, guaranteed to get everyone on the dancefloor. Then in our Acoustic Set, it takes on a whole new shape, stripped back to let the emotion of the lyrics shine through.

We do the same with Ironic. Acoustic, it’s intimate and familiar — the kind of song that has everyone joining in from the first chorus. Whether it’s during a wedding drinks reception, a corporate dinner, or a festival-style party, it always brings people together.

Why It Matters

For us, it’s never just about playing songs. It’s about creating those emotional highs — the goosebumps, the singalongs, the laughter, and sometimes even the tears. Those are the moments people remember long after the night has ended.

That’s why Alanis Morissette and Chappell Roan sit so well in our sets. For me, it’s full circle: from the songs I grew up belting out, to watching a new generation find their own anthems. And being able to deliver both — to different audiences, in different ways — is a privilege I’ll never take for granted.

Because at the end of the day, music isn’t just something you hear. It’s something you feel. And that’s what The Session Band is all about.
